My Journey with Chronic Pain
My name is Tommy — I’m a firefighter, a Martial Arts enthusiast, a lover of the outdoors, and a proud father and husband.
Four years ago, my life took a dramatic turn. I was blindsided by a work-related injury that led to chronic pain — starting in my back and never truly leaving.
At first, I didn’t realize this pain would become a long-term companion. It slowly crept into every part of my life — family, work, and the activities I loved most. I went through some of my darkest days, feeling isolated and overwhelmed.
Something had to change. I began my life long journey with a mind shift — a refusal to let chronic pain dictate my story. I became relentless about working on myself, spending hours each day listening to podcasts about mindset, diet, inflammation, pain, injury, and healing. Some episodes were transformative; others, not so much.
I read dozens of books — from David Goggins and The Obstacle Is the Way to Switch On Your Brain, Outlive, The True Power of Water, Learn to meditate, and The Way Out. I’ll be sharing the most life-changing insights and information from these resources with you, because I believe knowledge and perspective can truly reshape your journey.
I endured countless hours of physical therapy and learned to be skeptical of internet “experts.” I radically changed my diet — cutting out inflammatory foods like gluten, dairy, and (most days) sugar. I started unplugging from screens at night and let go of friendships that were more inflammatory than any food on my plate.
Along the way, I tried everything I thought might help — vitamins, minerals, peptides, and even stem cell therapy. I spent months researching and comparing options, trying to understand what was actually worth the investment. I looked for treatments and products that were still owned by families, not corporations, because I wanted to support people who cared about healing, not just profit. I learned how to tell the difference between reputable stem cell clinics and those that were more gimmick than science. Every step taught me something new — about the body, about patience, and about how easily hope can be taken advantage of when you’re in pain.
I stopped looking at pain through a microscope and started observing it from a distance. I ditched the activities that triggered stress before they even began. There were moments of deep loneliness — like when someone asks, “How are you?” and you say, “I’m hurting today,” but they can’t see it and its been so long. It starts to feel like they look at you different.
“ like this guy is always in pain, I think he is faking it”.
That’s why I wanted to build something more than a newsletter — I wanted to form a community.
A place where people like you can find insight, information, and the message you need to hear, more tools for your tool box, more slides for your slide tray.
A reminder that managing pain takes a village — and this is your village.
